The troop often enters the favela in its armoured vehicle, called caveirão [big skull] which is associated with human rights abuses and repressive policing by the residents. The traffickers attempt to resist these invasions and, as a consequence, shootouts and violent encounters between the police and the traffickers become a daily occurrence.
